The 36th Empress' Cup - Third Round Results

Nojima were no match for Nadeshiko League champions Urawa, who strolled into the quarter-finals where they will meet Iga. Kira Chinatsu scored twice and there were further goals from Shibata Hanae, Saito Akane, Goto Michi and Seike Kiko. Urawa have never won this competition but will be favourites this year.

Kristie Mewis continued her good run of form, with two goals today bringing her to four in this competition, and five in six games in all competitions.  Arakawa Eriko pulled a goal back for Saitama but there was to be no comeback after Ogawa Shiho scored the winning goal three minutes from time. Hara Ayumi made a very rare appearance, her first in years, and today was Yamago Nozomi's final game.

Fujieda Junshin's hopes of an upset were undone early in this match, as an own goal gave JEF United the perfect start. The Nadeshiko League's top scorer Sugasawa Yuika added the second before half-time and two more goals came in the second half from Ikadai Risa and Yamamoto Naomi. JEF United now play INAC Kobe, against whom they have won twice and drawn twice this year.

Just as they had against INAC Kobe last year, Ehime managed to hold Beleza to just two goals in the first half, before running out of stamina and collapsing in the second. Tanaka Mina was the star of the show, coming on as a substitute to score a hat-trick. Beleza next play Niigata in Sendai, in a repeat of last year's quarter-final match where last year they had their goalkeeper sent off on their way to losing to Niigata.

Maeda Risa gave Nittaidai the lead after ten minutes, and it looked at half-time as if the students could make it through. Arimachi Saori had other ideas and her two goals in the second half turned things around for Belle, with Miyama Aya adding a third from the spot in additional time. Belle next make their way to Sendai to face Vegalta.
